Villa Park Historical Society

The historical museum is located at the intersection of South Villa Ave and the Prairie Path. Built in 1929 the building originally served the community as the Villa Ave stop for the Chicago, Aurora & Elgin electric train line and an appliance store. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. In 2009 it also became the Visitor Center for the Village providing Busniness information, Prairie Path Maps, Chamber of Commerce directory, and guides to restaurants and shopping. For more than 30 years the Historical Museum has been operated by a volunteer board. Its operation is only possible by the generosity of its membership, donors, visitors, and fundraising activities.

Addison Historical Museum

The ADDISON HISTORICAL SOCIETY is housed in the historic 1892 Balzer House which was originally located on E Lake St.It was the home of William Balzer, his wife Marie Heidemann and their family. The museum contains artifact and photo displays about local history. CENTURY HOUSE (129 W. Army Trail Blvd): Built in 1893 as a teachers' home for the Lutheran School, The Addison Historical Society researched and restored the home to the late 19th to early 20th Century period. Visitors can experience first hand what it was like to live in Addison at this time. COACH HOUSE (135 W. Army Trail Blvd, behind museum): Built by William Balzer in 1932 using lumber from his former tombstone shop, Balzer used the building for his clerk office, vehicle storage & carpentry shop. The first floor contains a re-creation of his clerk office, a diorama of the Addison State Bank, an Addison Railroad display and exhibits on Addison's agricultural heritage. The 2nd floor displays antique items & tools.
