The Dillon Home
1005 E. 3rd St.
Sterling, IL 61081
- Show on Big Map
The Dillon Home is a work of Italianate architecture, built in 1858. The property was ultimately home to P.W. Dillon, President of Northwestern Steel & Wire. The home's grandeur is a remarkable sight, as his wife, Crete, was an avid traveler, and collector of eclectic pieces and period furniture. The Dillon Home retains all of the original furnishings and belongings, as the estate was conveyed to the Sterling Park District after PW.'s passing in 1980. The home is available for wedding rental - the manicured, spacious grounds, fountain and towering two-story enclosed porch is a perfect setting for your special day.

"My husband have wanted to try this restaurant for a long time since reading other reviews about it. The reviews were spot on. Our waiter, Michael, was outstanding. He was taking care of half the room and never missed a beat. They certainly know how to hire staff. That was an added bonus to the food.....I'm not much of a beef person but ordered a New York Strip. After all, how could you go to a steak house and not order steak? It was the best steak I have ever had. It had just the right crust on it. The juices were flowing onto the plate. Seasoning perfect. My husband ordered the filet and ate every bit of it. He said it was so good he hated to eat the last bite because he'd want more. I suggest you make reservations because you don't want to miss eating at this restaurant. It's a gem!" Yelp 4.5 (134 reviews)

The Oregon Public Library, established in 1872, resided in rental space until the early 1900's. Funded by Andrew Carnegie & designed by Pond & Pond, the current building opened in 1908. Allen and Irving Pond, two Chicago architects and former Eagle's Nest members, designed the Oregon Public Library - a Carnegie library building now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The library's gallery showcases turn-of-the-century works, including Lorado Taft and Nellie Verne Walker's neo-classical masterpieces. The second-story art gallery's exceptional collection boasts a vast number of paintings and sculptures, most of which are on permanent display. In 1918, Lorado Taft, along with Oliver Dennett Grover, Charles Frances Browne, and Nellie Verne Walker, founded the art gallery on the second floor of the library. They used it for regular art showings and lectures. Most of the works you see in the gallery today were gifted to the library by members of Eagle's Nest Art Colony.
